    Introduction description：Merchiston Castle School is one of the United Kingdom's leading independent schools, one of a very few schools still specializing in providing a high-quality boarding school education for boys.

  • Merchiston Castle School

    Situated just outside Scotland's capital city of Edinburgh, Merchiston Castle School has a 190 year history and a strong academic heritage. It has a long history of graduating students who have gone on to study at the world's leading universities, such as Cambridge and Oxford. The school was founded in May 1833 by the Scottish scholar Charles Chalmers, who rented Merchiston Castle, the home of John Napier, the mathematician and inventor of logarithms. Charles, the first headmaster, was an accomplished scholar of mathematics and science who pioneered the incorporation of mathematics and natural science into the Merchiston curriculum in the early 19th century, when most public schools in England were still studying traditional classical texts. Under his tutelage and leadership, students were prepared for the new era ahead of others.

    Merchiston International School (MIS) in Shenzhen is the first overseas campus of Merchiston Castle School, a top-ranked independent school located in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK with a glorious history of over 188 years. MIS is also the first international school in Shenzhen providing an authentic British international education and boarding system. Located in Longhua District in the north of Shenzhen city, MIS occupies a ground space of 20,000 square metres providing a building area of 50,000 square metres, which can accommodate 1,200 students with a maximum class size of 22. The school opened its doors to boys and girls aged 4-18 (Early Years - Year 13) in August 2018. English is the primary language of instruction in MIS. Students from Years 1 to 9 study the English National Curriculum, with additional access to Mandarin (Putonghua) language learning as part of the core curriculum. Students from Years 10 to 13 study for IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) examinations and GCE (General Certificate of Education) A Level examinations. The curriculum aims to prepare our students thoroughly for their future studies in world-renowned universities across the globe and, at the same time, to facilitate their access into society. Adopting Merchiston Castle School’s ethos, MIS features a wide range of co-curricular activities, supported by state-of-the-art teaching and sports facilities.     Merchiston Academy Songshanlake (MAS) is adjacent to Huawei European Village, located in Songshan Lake Park. Tranquil and elegant, the campus boasts over 35,000 square metres of floor area with easy access to transportation. MAS opens in September 2021.
     
    While focusing on pastoral care, we promote a proactive and challenging approach in teaching and learning. Both online and offline resources are easily accessable in and out of the classroom.     Introduction description：MIS Shekou combines the British National Curriculum, MCS Juniors lessons and the International Primary School Curriculum (IPC) to form a unique curriculum system.

    As the first overseas campus of the century-old Scottish school, MIS attaches great importance to the teaching and learning of Chinese culture. This is the real "international mindset" that an international school must have – to prepare our children for the future whilst fully respecting Chinese

    MIS Shekou believes that "global citizenship" is partly about appreciation of Chinese cultural values. The Juniors students are at a critical stage in the shaping of values, and therefore MIS Shekou focuses on strengthening our young people’s foundation of Chinese culture. Based on the British
