Senior Adviser

Andrew Hunter was the much beloved Head of Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, for 20 years, beginning his Headship in 1998 and retiring in 2018. Andrew's retirement as Head of MCS was not the end of his journey with Merchiston, as he has taken on the role of Senior Education Advisor, aiding in the creation and successful operation of Merchiston International School (Shenzhen) and Dongguan Xingzhi Vocational School's MAS - helping to instill the fine values, standards and traditions of MCS into each school.

Marion graduated from Royal Holloway College, University of London before her time at Merchiston Castle School in Edinburgh, where she stayed for forty years. Marion taught math and became the Head of Mathematics and finally Deputy Head of Academics. Marion was responsible for all the MCS boys' university applications with many boys being offered places at Oxford or Cambridge. Her time at Merchiston was very happy, as her work has always been her passion.

Born and raised in England, Mark completed his primary and secondary education in Wiltshire, before attending the University of Glamorgan to study for a degree in Business Studies. After a period of employment in banking and finance, Mark transitioned into teaching. In the following years he worked as a teacher, teacher trainer, resource centre manager and IELTS examiner in China, South Korea and Turkey.

Following the completion of a Masters degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, Mark gained further experience working at international schools offering the Cambridge curriculum where he taught IGCSE and A Level English Language and Business Studies in Tanzania and China. At the same time, he is also an AS & A-level English examiner.

As an educator, Mark is focused on empowering students to take control of their own learning experience. He supports students in developing the skills, competencies and confidence necessary to embrace collaboration and experimentation in the process of establishing their own talents and achieving academic excellence.

In addition to developing his teaching expertise, in the last decade Mark has worked in senior leadership positions at international schools as Academic Coordinator, Academic Principal, Deputy Principal and his current role as Head of Seniors at Merchiston. To embed increased performance as an educational leader he is currently undertaking the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH).

Furthermore, Mark is also a Cambridge Teacher Trainer and an Evaluator for the Council of International Schools (CIS). Both roles allow him the opportunity to work closely with teachers and school leaders around the world to provide quality teaching and learning experiences for both students and teachers.

When not engaged in educational issues, Mark likes to travel (83 countries and counting…), cook and go on long walks with his wife and dog, Nala.

Academic Principal

Currently serving as the National Head of MIS, Michael previously served as the Principal of the International Campus at Beijing No.4 High School. He holds a B.A. in History Education from Capital Normal University, and an Ed. M. in Leadership and School Development from Acadia University in Canada. From 2003 to 2017, he served as a History Teacher, Deputy Director of the Teaching Affairs Office, Director of the International Curriculum Programme and Principal of the International Campus of Beijing No. 4 High School. In terms of teaching research, he had participated in the research of the municipal-level project "The Application of Foreign Language Materials in History Teaching"and the district-level project "The Practice of Oral History in Secondary School History Teaching", etc. Relevant papers and researches have been awarded by the Beijing Municipal Government.
In 2017, as the founding principal, he established the Future Leadership Academy, Hainan and officially joined MIS in March 2024.

Principal

Ms Ningning Li holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Liaoning
University, a Master of Arts in Literature from the Central Conservatory of Music (majoring in Musicology), and a Master of Arts in Arts Management from WHITECLIFFE COLLEGE OF ART & DESIGN in New Zealand. As one of the founding members of Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC), she has held various positions including Secretary-General of the UIC Secretariat, Director of the Four-Dimensional Education Office, Assistant Principal, Development Director,
Director of Student Affairs, Secretary-General of the University Foundation, President of the UIC Alumni Association, and Dean of the Zhuhai Institute of Innovation Culture and Creative Industry. With her international perspective and experience in higher education development, Ningning Li will inject
powerful strength into Xingzhi School's future as an innovative vocational international education institution in the Greater Bay Area.

Party Branch Secretary

Lin Guoliang, graduated from Northeastern University with a master's degree. From 1986 to 2001, he served as Director and Branch Secretary of Mineral Processing Department of Gold College, Shenyang (Northeastern University). From 2002 to 2008, he served as Deputy Director and Branch Secretary of the Institute of Environmental Research, at Northeastern University; From 2009 to 2015, he was employed as Dean Assistant, Adjunct Professor and Department Head at Fuzhou University. From 2016 to 2021, he worked as Department Head and Branch Secretary of Yantai Gold Vocational College; In 2022, he was hired as Deputy General Manager of Liaoning Boshi Technology Co., LTD. In 1997, he was selected to study in Liaoning Provincial Party School of CPC. From 2002 to 2012, he was appointed as an expert by Department of Ecology and Environment of Liaoning Province.

Director of Curriculum

Don previously served as the Head of Student Success Center at MIS.
He graduated with a degree in Child Learning Disabilities from Northwestern University in the United States and had lived and worked in the United States for ten years. Don has been awarded a certificate for speech and language pathologist from ICHP and CGFNS. He has in-depth knowledge and successful experience in speech sound correction, ESL and academic English teaching, and public speaking coaching.
Don is also qualified as a high school mathematics teacher and has served as a mathematics teacher and class teacher at Lakeshore Schools Chicago, United States. He is also familiar with teaching A-LEVEL mathematics and further maths and has trained students to participate in mathematics competitions such as the AMC8/10/12 and achieved excellent results. Mr. Lyu has also carried out original research on how to help students to overcome maths learning difficulties.
